Irene and her family have been operating their bed and breakfast since 1992. Born and raised in the Alberni Valley they are a wealth of local and island information. In the summer, Irene can be found most Saturday mornings in front of her fresh cut flower booth at Port Alberni’s own Farmers Market. They would be pleased to answer any questions you have or help you organize your island travels.


At Strathcona Street B & B we pride ourselves in supplying our guests with all the comforts of a large inn but without paying the high rates. Like the original B&B’s of old England, where a weary traveler could find a welcoming host to talk to, a calming place to bed down for the night and a nourishing breakfast in the morning to begin his next day’s journey, we pride ourselves in making your stay a good one.

Guests may also relax in the lounge area, help themselves to coffee or tea or use the fridge or microwave to prepare a light snack. All rooms are non-smoking. This lovely B and B also borders Maplehurst Park, one of Port Alberni’s newest hiking and nature parks.

Only a short distance from the Pacific Rim Highway and shopping centers our hideaway is nestled in 4 acres of gardens and surrounded by majestic cedars and Douglas firs. We offer 3 guest rooms, a pool, hot tub, sauna, wireless internet and many other extras such as laundry facilities, fire pit, barbeque, free pick up/ drop off at the Lady Rose, covered parking and safe off road parking as well as space for self-contained RV’s. The largest room, with private washroom and shower, has a queen size bed as well as a double futon. It can comfortably sleep 4 people. This room is wheelchair accessible and has a private entrance option.

Has a queen size bed and has a private detached washroom. This room is located in a quiet corner of the house and has 2 large windows.

Has two twin beds and is especially suitable for family situations.


Family Combination: An ideal situation for families is to combine rooms 2 + 3 together. They are at the end of a hallway and directly across from each other. These 2 rooms share a detached private washroom.


Room 1 - $140 per night (queen with private bath, wheelchair accessible)

Room 2 - $130 per night (queen, detached washroom)

Room 3 - $130 per night (twin beds or king, detached washroom)

Family Combination - $175 per night (2 rooms across from each other, detached washroom)

Group Rate - $280 up to 8 people. Great for reunions, weddings and other gatherings. Minimum 2 night stay.

Additional person $15. Children under 6 years free.

A nutritious breakfast is provided and consists of your choice of a full sit-down hot meal or buffet style smorgasbord of eggs, bacon/sausages, muffins, pastries, fruit, juices, coffee, etc.

Fishermen may opt for a bagged lunch and thermos of coffee to go.

HEADING WEST on Hwy 4,  at the Pacific Rim Shopping Centre turn right onto Cherry Creek Rd. At the 4 way stop turn left onto Moore Rd. and follow it to the stop sign. Turn right onto Strathcona St. (Less than 3 minutes from the mall)

HEADING EAST on Hwy 4,  from the West Coast, drive into Port Alberni, go up Johnson St over the railway tracks and turn left at the Coast Realty office onto Ian Ave. At the stop sign turn right onto Compton Road and then, half a block later, turn left onto Strathcona Street at Jax Store. Strathcona Street B and B is located at 6000 Strathcona. (Less than 3 minutes from Coast Realty)
